Our students of Interior design and Interior Architecture course were taken to the very interesting, innovative and informative Vanitha Veedu expo that was held at JLN Stadium ground, Kochi on Oct 25,26,27 and 28 by their faculty Ar. Rima Jabeen.The visit to the expo on the whole was a great opportunity for our students to get hands on knowledge on each and every building material in both interior and exterior aspect.
There were numerous stalls with various new and innovative materials that could be used in both interior and exterior spaces, like steel doors and windows that replicated a pure teak wood finish, an alternative solution to the asbestos or aluminum roofing sheets, clipping and locking flooring solution which is easy to install and maintain, glass partition with various types of coloured or patterned glass in a single partition. A lot of variants in plywood, MDF, HDF etc. was also seen, which was promised to be a lot more durable, strong and water resistant than the ones available in the market today. Another innovative interior solution was the steel countertop and cabinet partition which could be a great alternative for plywood, multi-wood or aluminum fabricated cabinet systems.
Our students were given number of catalogues and brochures to be taken along so that they could bring out-of-the-box ideas to their design.
There was another open stall “KATHA- Kerala Awards for Thesis in Architecture” were shortlisted architecture final year Students from all across Kerala showcased their sheets and physical model. Our students got to learn a lot from their presentation sheets as they had an interactive session with a few nominees. Overall, the visit to the expo was a great experience for the students to research in depth into the field of Interior designing.
